Schools all set to reopen in Sirsi, but no sight of textbooks

Sirsi: With just eight more days left for reopening of School in the Sirsi education district, education department official have not been able to supply textbooks and uniforms to the students.

The Sirsi education district, which consists of Sirsi, Siddapur, Yallapur, Mundgod, Haliyal, and Joida taluk, has 1,212 primary School and 171 High Schools.

The education department has to provide uniforms to 72,900 students, besides supply free textbooks to 94,400 students. It has also to provide textbooks to 18,000 students who purchase them from Outside.

Education department officials said uniforms had not been received and only 65% of textbooks for Class 10 was supplied to the education district so far.

Last term, textbooks were not supplied to students till the end of first term in the district, enraging the parents.

Officials said 90% of Kannada medium schools’ textbooks were received since March first week.

Education department has decided to reopen all Governments schools in district on May 28. District In-charge Deputy Director of Public Instructions C S Naik said Instructions have been issued to supply as many textbooks to students as available.

“There are shortage of textbooks, especially for English Medium Schools. We are hopeful that by the time School reopens, textbooks  and uniforms are supplied,” he said adding Schools have started distributing textbooks.By next Monday (May 21) all the schools are expected to distribute them.
