Yellapur: Two youths were killed on the spot after their scooter collided head-on with a KSRTC bus while allegedly attempting to overtake a car on National Highway-52 near Chikkamavalli Cross in Uttara Kannada district on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Manjunath (27) and Sumeet (18), both residents of Old Hubballi.

According to police, the KSRTC bus was returning to Sindhanur from Karwar when the accident occurred. The scooter, travelling from Yellapur towards Hubballi, allegedly tried to overtake a car at high speed, lost control and rammed into the oncoming bus.

Police said neither of the two riders was wearing a helmet, and both suffered fatal head injuries in the impact. The front portions of the scooter and the bus were damaged.

Based on a complaint filed by KSRTC bus conductor Suresh Gubbevada, Yellapur Police have registered a case against the deceased rider for alleged rash and negligent driving. Further investigation is underway.
