Bengaluru: A daycare centre operating on the campus of IT company Capgemini in Bengaluru has come under police investigation after videos allegedly showing toddlers being subjected to abuse by caregivers surfaced on social media.
According to reports, the viral videos purportedly show caregivers placing children inside the drum of a front-loading washing machine, locking them inside bathrooms and spraying water into their mouths with a toilet jet when they cried.
The daycare centre, located at Capgemini's Brookefield campus, caters to the children of the company's employees. The incident came to light after the videos surfaced, following which parents approached the police and lodged a complaint.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against five women employed as caregivers at the facility. Investigators are examining the viral videos, CCTV footage and statements of parents and other concerned persons as part of the probe.
Media reports said the affected children were between two and three years of age.
Following the incident, Capgemini temporarily shut down the daycare centre. In a statement, the company said it has a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of child abuse, is cooperating fully with the police investigation and has also initiated an internal inquiry into the matter.
The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an inquiry into the alleged violations of child protection norms.
Police said further investigation is underway.
