Hindu organisations stage protest in Bhatkal, seek reconstruction of Murinkatte

Bhatkal: Hindu organisations in Bhatkal on Friday staged a protest rally demanding the reconstruction of the demolished Murinkatte structure and action against those allegedly involved in its demolition.

The rally began at Channapatna Hanuman Temple and passed through the town's main road, Marikatta and National Highway 66 before reaching Mini Vidhana Soudha, where leaders submitted a memorandum to the Assistant Commissioner.

In the memorandum addressed to the Karnataka Chief Minister through the district administration, the organisations alleged that Murinkatte, a structure associated with local Hindu religious traditions, was demolished by a large crowd on May 24. They claimed it had recently been rebuilt at a site identified by the administration after highway expansion works affected its original location.

The protesters demanded the immediate reconstruction of Murinkatte, legal action against those responsible for its demolition, and the withdrawal of cases registered against Hindu activists who had staged protests over the issue.

Representatives of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Hindu Jagran Vedike and leaders from several villages participated in the rally.

The protest comes days after the Uttara Kannada district administration and MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri assured local residents that the Murinkatte structure would soon be reconstructed at its original site within the median of National Highway 66.
