Two women followers raped by the Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh today moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking life imprisonment for the sect head sentenced to 20 years in prison.
A special CBI court on August 28 had sentenced Ram Rahim Singh to 20 years in prison after his conviction in two rape cases.

The BJP's Karnataka unit today hit out at actor Prakash Raj for criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on those "celebrating" the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh, saying he has shown "political immaturity."

The pathetic road conditions here claimed the lives of a scooter borne couple today, while their granddaughter escaped with minor bruises early today on Mysuru Road.
Police said Anthony Joseph (55) and his wife Sagai Mary (52) were on their way home on their scooter with their six-year-old granddaughter from St Johns Hospital, where they had taken her as she was running a fever.

Bowing to public pressure, the government today cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre to moderate the relentless rise in fuel prices witnessed for the last three months.
"Govt of India has reduced Basic Excise Duty rate on petrol and diesel [both branded and unbranded] by Rs 2 per litre w.e.f. 4th October,2017," the finance ministry said in a tweet.
