Bhatkal: In a dramatic rescue operation at the popular coastal destination of Murdeshwar on Friday, two tourists were saved from drowning in the Arabian Sea after local rescue teams responded swiftly.
The rescued tourists have been identified as 19-year-old Venu and Vinay Ramesh, both residents of Bengaluru.
According to Murdeshwar Police, a group of eleven young men from Bengaluru had come to visit the beach. While four of them were swimming, two got caught in strong waves and were pulled deeper into the sea. Fortunately, the rescue team acted promptly and managed to bring both of them back to safety.
One of the victims was in a critical condition and had almost lost consciousness. However, due to timely intervention and continuous chest compressions administered by the police and rescue personnel, his breathing was successfully restored.
The rescue operation involved members of the Life Guard team including Rajesh, Mudassir, Santosh; the Coastal Security Force’s Darshan; Coastal Control Unit’s Nagaraj; Home Guard Sudhakar, and local volunteers.
Murdeshwar Police Sub-Inspector Hanumanth Biradar visited the spot and inspected the situation.
With the monsoon season drawing to a close, thousands of tourists from across Karnataka have begun flocking to Murdeshwar, turning the safety of visitors into a growing challenge for local police and rescue teams. Locals are urging the district administration to implement preventive safety measures to avoid such life-threatening incidents in the future.
