Bhatkal: Police have initiated legal action against miscreants who spread false news on social media claiming that cattle bones were dumped in Maqdoom Colony.
Bhatkal Town Municipal Council (TMC) Chief Officer Venkatesh Narayan Nauda filed a complaint at Bhatkal police station on Saturday evening. The complaint stated that around 9 PM on September 9, unknown persons circulated photos and videos from multiple sources, falsely alleging that heaps of cattle bones were lying in Maqdoom Colony. It further mentioned that this fake news was deliberately spread with the intention of disturbing public peace and creating fear. The complaint requested police to trace those who spread the false news and take legal action against them.
Police have registered an FIR and assured that strict action will be taken. “Such fake news poses a threat to public order. Efforts are on to identify the culprits and initiate legal proceedings,” police said.
The incident has caused concern among local residents, and police have intensified monitoring of social media platforms. Authorities have urged the public not to fall prey to rumours.
