Karwar: An eight-year-old boy was killed and three others were seriously injured after a container truck collided with a car and overturned on it along National Highway-66 near Karwar in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka on Monday evening.
The accident occurred on a curvy stretch between Binaga and Arga Ghat when the container truck reportedly lost control and rammed into an oncoming car bearing Maharashtra registration that was heading towards Karwar.
The impact of the collision was severe, causing the truck to overturn and crush the car beneath it, leaving the vehicle completely mangled.
Rescue teams and local residents rushed to the spot and pulled out the occupants trapped inside the wreckage. The eight-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the three other occupants of the car, believed to be his family members, sustained critical injuries.
The injured were shifted to Karwar District Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment and their condition is stated to be serious, hospital sources said.
The mishap led to traffic disruption on the highway for some time as police and emergency personnel carried out rescue operations and cleared the wreckage.
Karwar traffic police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
