Uttara Kannada SP M. Narayan transferred to Bengaluru; Deepan M.N. takes charge as new SP

Karwar: Superintendent of Police (SP) for Uttara Kannada, Mr. M. Narayan, has been transferred to Bengaluru. In his place, IPS officer Deepan M.N. has officially assumed charge as the new SP of the district.

Mr. Narayan took office on July 7, 2023. Over the course of his one-year tenure, he earned widespread appreciation for his firm stance against crime and his effective handling of several high-profile cases. His administration was marked by decisive action—particularly against illegal gambling clubs—and he maintained strong engagement with community organisations and civil society groups. His people-friendly approach and dedication to law enforcement earned him significant popularity across the district.

The news of his transfer has been met with disappointment by many in the region. However, sources confirm that Mr. Narayan had requested a transfer to Bengaluru due to family reasons, and the government approved his request accordingly.

Mr. Deepan M.N., a 2019-batch IPS officer, has now taken over as the new SP of Uttara Kannada. Before his current posting, he served as the Commandant of the First Battalion of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) in Bengaluru. Known for his discipline and administrative competence, his appointment has been received positively by both officials and local residents.

A formal farewell and welcome ceremony was held on Wednesday at the SP’s office in Karwar. The event was attended by senior police officials from across the district, including DYSPs, Circle Inspectors, and other officers. Representatives from various prominent institutions and civil society groups were also present.

Among them was Mr. Inayatullah Shabandri, President of Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem Bhatkal—the oldest and most prominent socio-religious organisation in the district—who, along with other dignitaries, bid farewell to Mr. Narayan with floral bouquets and garlands, while extending a warm welcome to the newly appointed SP, Mr. Deepan M.N.
