Mysuru: A month after he he went into hiding after intimidating Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s aide K Marigowda surrendered before Mysuru city police on Wednesday. This was on expected lines as, on Tuesday the High Court, while refusing to grant him advance bail, had asked him to surrender before the police and approach the trial court for regular bail.
Marigowda, who surrendered before the jurisdictional Nazarbad police around 2 pm, was later produced before Third JMFC Court. Judge G Deepa sent him to judicial custody till August 16 following which he was taken to the Mysuru Central Jail.
His lawyer C M Jagadish said a bail petition will be moved on Thursday.
On July 3, Marigowda allegedly intimidated Shikha at Government Guest House for not relieving the then Mysuru tahsildar Naveen Joseph even after his transfer to Yadgir.
The DC was there to receive Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who had come to the city to attend an Iftar party. Marigowda shouted at Shikha while she was moving towards her vehicle to join the CM’s convoy.
He was upset with Naveen as he had cleared an encroachment of a government land at Hebbal in city on which Marigowda’s friend had developed a residential layout. Also, the DC cancelling the bar license of a resort owned by Marigowda’s brother-in-law a few days earlier had not gone down well with him.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Nazarbad police chose to keep mediapersons away from the station when Marigowda surrendered before them. They also allegedly gave him preferential treatment by offering tea and snacks.
Security measures reviewed at City Civil Court
Bengaluru: The city police on Wednesday reviewed the security measures at the City Civil Court Complex, following the low intensity bomb explosion in the District Court in Mysuru. Sandeep Patil, DCP, Central Division, visited the city civil court complex to check the security measures. The sniffer dog squad and bomb disposal squad were also present. Special security was given to a Court Hall where the trial of terror suspects was going on. Special security includes deployment of security personnel round the clock and fixing metal detectors to the entrance of court hall. City police have deployed 24-hours security and installation of more CCTV cameras in the premises has been proposed. The metal detectors were also checked.
