Gangolli: A fishing boat capsized off the Gangolli coast near Kundapur on Tuesday morning due to rough sea conditions, leaving three fishermen missing and one rescued.

The incident occurred in the Arabian Sea near the sea walk of Gangolli port when the boat, which had ventured out for fishing, overturned amid high waves and heavy rain.

The missing fishermen have been identified as Suresh Kharvi, Jagannath Kharvi, and Rohith Kharvi. Another fisherman, Santosh Kharvi, was rescued by a nearby fishing boat, according to social worker Ibrahim M.H.

Sources said the boat, owned by Suresh Kharvi, had set out around 6 a.m. When the fishermen noticed rough sea conditions and attempted to return, the boat capsized midway due to powerful waves. Santosh managed to swim to safety and was later rescued by another vessel in the vicinity. However, the other three fishermen remain untraceable as of the latest reports.

Udupi Additional SP, Kundapur DySP, Kundapur Tahsildar Pradeep Kundekar, and several other officials, including port officers, revenue staff, Coastal Security Police, Coast Guard personnel, and local volunteers, rushed to the spot.

A search operation has been launched using drone cameras to trace the missing fishermen.
