Gas tanker topples at Mangaluru, creates panic among locals

Mangaluru: An incident was reported on Mangaluru-Bengaluru highway when a bullet tanker belonging to HPCL filled with gas, rolled down on the road causing leakage and creating terror and panic among the locals. The incident took place on 9th August, Tuesday around 3pm  at Udane in Shiradi village near Uppinangady.

As per the reports, the tanker was moving towards Bengaluru from Mangaluru when driver applied sudden brakes. A part of the tanker skidded off the road and into the Kumardhara river while the engine part remained on the road. Since the tragedy took place near the school, terror prevailed among the locals.

Immediately, the fire brigade personnel reached the spot and the preventive measures were undertaken. The highway was temporarily blocked and the power supply in a region was cut off for hours observing the safety. 

Puttur's Additional superintendent of Police , Rishant had requested the locals, not to use the water of river for next 6-7 hours after the incident. Since the gas had leaked into the river, Puttur municipality has been told not to lift water from Nekkilady until further orders. Due to the mishap, there was a huge traffic jam observed on the highway.
