Udupi: A student of third year B.Tech at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), was found unconscious in her room at the hostel and later died at the Kasturba Hospital on Monday.

The police identified the deceased as Gowri D. Thampi(20), a resident of Kerala.

As per the sources, Gowri did not open the room even after her friends knocked on the door at night. Upon notifying the hostel warden, the door was broken open. Gowri was found lying unconscious in the room. She was rushed to the Kasturba Hospital, where she died at around 11 p.m.

According to director of MIT, Gowri’s mother came here from Cochin on Tuesday and gave permission for post-mortem. Her father, who works in Zambia, arrived here on Wednesday and took the body for cremation in Kerala.The post-mortem report was still awaited.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Manipal police station and investigation is on.
