Karwar: The boats which would be used for unauthorized fishing in the sea would be seized and further legal action would be taken, said Deputy Commissioner SS Nakul at a meeting of fishermen representatives and officials at his office auditorium on Tuesday.
When the coast guards brought the security problems being faced due to such lapses, he said that fishing boats should follow the colour coding and the bio-metric information of every fishermen who enter the sea for fishing should be provided to the officials for security reason.
The deputy commissioner instructed that the boats which violated the colour coding and using more than 350 horse power engines should be seized immediately. People can call 1077 and inform if any boats using LED lights for fishing.
The Fisheries Department has provided 1000 life jackets to the registered fishermen who use the boats without machines. They should strictly wear the life jacket which entering the sea for fishing and the mechanised boat owners should provide the safety told to the fishermen. If the safety materials were not found in the boats, action would be initiated, he warned.
The fishermen leaders demanded that the Coast Guard should immediately rush to the help of the fishermen in the trouble. They should keep vigil in the selected areas. The Navy officials should inform the fishermen at least a week in advance while taking up the demonstrations, they said.
