Reserve Bank will soon put into circulation a new batch of Rs 500 banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi new series, printed in 2017.
"A new batch of banknotes with inset letter 'A' in both the number panels, bearing the signature of Dr Urjit R Patel Governor, Reserve Bank of India; with the year of printing '2017 on the reverse, are being issued," RBI said in a release today.

A huge fire today engulfed a 24- storey residential tower in London, injuring 30 people and trapping several others in their homes.
The fire at Grenfell Tower on the Lancaster West Estate in Latimer Road was reported at 01:16 local time.

Counterfeit currency detection instances in the country's banking channels have seen an all time increase in the last eight years at over 3.53 lakh instances, according to a latest government report.

A bill aimed at empowering the state government to fix the rates for each class of treatment to be collected by private medical establishments was tabled in the Karnataka legislative assembly today.
It also gives powers to the government to impose penalty up to Rs five lakh or imprisonment up to three years, on collecting more money as charges than the fixed rates.

Heavy rains lashing the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi in the last two days have caused widespread damage to houses and propertyin the region.
Several houses and roads were destroyed in the rains in DK and the water levels in the rivers Nethravati, Phalguni and Kumaradhara were rising steadily, official sources said.
